The Salty Tears Bring the Ocean Waters, eventually Bringing the Joy
When it comes to grief, your culture is grief illiterate.
This was a message I received about 3 1/2 years ago from the Komtomble, the little people (spirits) of the earth from Burkina Faso.
They asked me to make a special grief altar with shells, ocean water, sand, and amber to have at my ceremonies and healings to help people grieve in any form:
Loss of a loved one, a friendship, home, job, illness, infertility, break up, ancestral, what’s happening to humanity and Mother Earth, and the list goes on.
They said, ‘The salty tears bring the ocean waters, which eventually bring joy. Joy can’t be accessed without grieving fully.’
Grieving is Key to Accessing Joy
I happen to be in my own grieving process and seem to be magnetizing clients left, right, and center, all in deep grief.
For example, on Saturday I held a plant medicine ceremony for John whose 16-year-old son was shot and killed 1.5 years ago. Fortunately, he has done a lot of grieving, but something still weighed heavy on his heart.
In ceremony, his son’s spirit showed up angry and crying that his life had ended. When a human dies suddenly, or unexpectedly, their soul can get ‘stuck’ and not transition back to the light. This is what had happened to him.
In addition, when a loved one dies and they haven’t been grieved properly or like John’s son, transitioned fully, they can weigh heavily in our energetic space. This is what was happening for John.
I was guided to create a ritual of white roses, honey, red wine, salt, and burned copal. We called in all his loved ones that were at his funeral, as John and I held his hands. He received love from everyone, got to a peaceful place, and let me help him fully transition back to the Light. It was beyond magical.
At the end of ceremony, John joyfully, unabashedly said, ‘I feel great’. This was something that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
This was my first in leading a grief ceremony and I loved it.
To witness how much energy was freed up in John’s heart was so gratifying.
With all that is happening in our world, grief work is so needed. I didn’t ever expect to be called into this realm but I’m excited to see how this develops.
If you have some grief that you’d like to process, (ladies it’s one of the biggies held in your womb), the last Plant Medicine Retreat of the year is happening 12/7-8 in Taos, NM.
Here’s to way more joy as the grief is processed.
