Taking care of your mind and body comes naturally – you fuel your body with food each day and sleep when you’re tired. However, these activities are necessities, and merely scratch the surface when it comes to head-to-toe health. The following are just a few of the many self-care activities you can make an active choice to implement in your life to soothe your body, mind, and soul.
Schedule More Spa Days
Treating yourself to a day at the spa tends to be a rare treat due to the expensive price tag that comes along with it. However, it’s easy to turn your bathroom into a relaxing oasis so you can have an at-home spa day. For a spa-like experience from the comfort of home, create your own steam room by turning up the heat in the shower and using a body wash with essential oils. You could also make your own facial mask by mixing avocado, honey, yogurt, and olive oil and let your pores soak in the goodness while you sip a cup of tea or read a book in a bubble bath. If you don’t have a skincare routine already, use this guide provided by The New York Times to create your own. Even if you don’t go for spa treatments at home or from pros, it’s still important to take care of your skin. Remember to moisturize and use SPF daily to keep your skin healthy.
Air Quality
Many people don’t realize how polluted the air in their home is. From cleaners to air fresheners to pressed flooring or even paint, our homes can have a mix of toxins that can lead to health issues or respiratory problems down the road. To keep the air in your home healthy, make sure to vacuum and dust regularly, especially if you have pets. Also make a point to switch out your HVAC system’s air filter every month to help remove mold, dust, pollen, and pet dander from the air you breathe. Opt for a filter with a MERV rating of 8, 11, or 13 to capture the most particles. In addition, reconsider the type of air fresheners and cleaners you use, opting for ones that are homemade or eco-friendly.
Heal Your Body and Mind
Many health strategies require you to push your body and mind to new heights, and this is a good thing, but you need to heal your body and mind too. One such method is Reiki, which is spiritual and emotional healing via light touch or the hovering of hands over various parts of your body to channel and read your energy. Reiki is a method of deep relaxation, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression by helping you connect with yourself and let go of negative energy. Many people find that Reiki removes energy blocks, provides pain relief, and improves overall wellness, so it’s worth finding a practitioner for a reiki treatment. Other popular methods of mind and body healing are yoga and meditation, but you might already have your own tried and true methods. Perhaps you enjoy journaling to get your thoughts out on paper, relieving stress by painting, or going on nature walks to give your body a break from the gym.
