Many of you may have either heard of or read the book, ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle. It’s a great read to really help you live the present moment. Why is this important? It makes life way more peaceful and enjoyable. When we focus on the past or jump ahead into the future, that is the analytic mind/ego doing its job, keeping itself alive through fear, anger, worry, judgment and the list goes on. The ego is the false created self, not our true Being.
When we find ourselves in the past or future, it often means pain and suffering. We are worried about something that hash’t happened yet or judging something we or another did or said that can’t be changed, resistance to what is.
This is where the Power of Now comes in. If we can be in and stay in the present moment, peace, freedom and joy reign. Obviously this is much easier said than done.
Becoming a vigilant observer of our thoughts and noticing where they go is the FIRST big step. When they aren’t in the present moment, bringing them back. You might do this 2000x’s a day! I’ve been practicing this and I’m AMAZED how most of the time I’m not in the present! It’s a full time job initially but it gets easier as the awareness heightens.
Next time you catch yourself resisting the present moment, here are 3 simple ways to look at your situation to help you stay with it.
1. Change it by speaking up
2. Leave it
or
3. Accept it
I’ve been in a situation that I’ve been resisting for way too long. Today was a break through day, with the help of this book and the word, ‘Accept’ that came through in meditation. I was able to really embrace ‘What is’ and leave it at that that. It took me a few months of frustration, pain and suffering until I FINALLY got to this point. Phew! It feels great to be in a completely different place with it.
“The more you are able to honor and accept the Now, the more you are free of pain, of suffering and free of the egoic mind” ~ Eckhart Tolle.
